Welcome to our Community website.
We are now, the only Anglo-Indian Association in the United Kingdom. We are also members of the International Anglo-Indian Federation.
Our aims, goals and ambitions are the same as they were when previous committees ran the Association to great effect and this will not change - we continue to hold events which raise funds to assist in the education of young Anglo-Indian children and to support those charitable organisations who cater to the needs of the less fortunate, elderly Anglo-Indians in India, as well as selected charities in the United Kingdom.
To fulfil the aims as described above, we send donations to the Calcutta Anglo Indian Services Society (CAISS), the Lawrence DeSouza Homes; Loreto Convent, Entally; Little Sisters of the Poor, Calcutta (Kolkata), Bangalore and Hyderabad; St Vincent's/ Catherine Homes and the Marion Education Centre, all in Calcutta; and Smile Cares in Madras (Chennai).
We make charitable donations to several worthwhile causes in the United Kingdom too, among whom are Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children; St Christopher's Hospice, for the treatment and care of terminally ill cancer patients; Demelza Children's Hospice, who look after children with terminal illnesses, to name but three.
We also make one off donations, annually, to one Indian charity/organisation - the Anglo Indian Guild in Bangalore who was the recipient in 2014 and one major UK charity/organisation - last year's recipient was the Help for Heros charity - also donations sent to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) to aid Tsunami and Hurricane victims over the past two years and in 2015 a donation was sent for the Nepal Earthquake Disaster
Following our EGM on 7th January 2017, the newly elected committee, is as follows:
Management Committee and Trustees
Lorraine Weatherill / Chairperson / Trustee
Micheal Xavier: Treasurer / Trustee
Claire Jansen: Assistant Treasurer
Janet Gomes- Secretary
Cedric Gomes - Social Committee / Trustee
Rowland Jansen: Social Committee
Cedric Roberts: Social Committe
We are ably assisted by the above committee members. Joining the committee after the EGM are: Claire & Rowland Jansen
We also have a fantastic pool of volunteers who help us at the various fund raising functions we hold throughout the year.
Janet Gomes the current Sec will be the organiser, for the benefit of the Thursday Club attendees, trips to the theatre, coach excursions to the seaside and long weekends away to various destinations.
The Association holds a weekly social club, predominantly for the Senior Citizens of our community, every Thursday, at St Chad's Church Hall, Burgoyne Road, South Norwood, London SE25 6JT. The club opens from 10:00 am to 14:00 pm - everyone is welcome... members and non-members alike.
The Thursday Club is well attended, averaging 140 visitors weekly. We play bingo, sell raffle tickets and the day is filled with music, Licenced bar, Snacks such as samosas, kathi rolls, dal puris etc are sold, either to eat in or bought to take home.
Over the years, we have had many visitors from Australia, Canada, America and India - friends and relatives who visit the attendees - and the messages we got back was that they really enjoyed the atmosphere and had a lovely time and would tell family and friends back home, to visit the lunch club if and when they come to London.
We hope you enjoy your visit to our website and find the information in the various pages, useful. You will find a Diary of Events detailing events to be held throughout the year to raise funds; photographs in the Gallery, taken at these events past and present courtesy of Brian Bowman, as well as historical items such as old newsletters and a special report of the visits made by some of the committee took the opportunity to visit recipient organisations of the donations we send to Calcutta. Simply hover over each of the tabs, to see what the pages contain.
There is a contact page for you to phone or email me or the other members of the committee. Please feel free to visit our Guest Book to leave your thoughts, views and/or comments
